The appeal of vampire stories is as ageless as the monsters that inspire them. And Netflix has a whole nest of options, from the serious (*Midnight Mass*) to the silly-scary (*Vampires vs. the Bronx*) to the sublime (*Interview With the Vampire*).

The sheer variety represented here prove just how many places the undead can pop up. Your plane’s getting hijacked? Well, there’s a vampire on board, and she’s in no mood to be trifled with. Someone killed Dracula's wife? All hell is about to break loose.

From earnestly old-fashioned dramas to gothic classics reimagined for a new generation, your vampire bases are covered.* *is here to help you pick the best bloodsucker sagas for your viewing pleasure.

Blood Red Sky (2021)

Blood Red Sky

Peri Baumeister just became a vampire and she's *really* not in the mood for this in 'Blood Red Sky'. STANISLAV HONZIK/NETFLIX

It’s no surprise that this bloody thriller landed on EW’s list of best horror films of the year in 2021; it’s vamps on a plane! When hijackers assume control of a transatlantic flight, German vampire Nadja (Peri Baumeister) has no choice but to take them out, one bloody battle at a time.

Director Peter Thorwarth makes terrific use of the plane’s enclosed spaces, creating clever, claustrophobic action scenes with maximum mayhem and some unexpected psychological depth. Let’s just say you don’t want to tangle with an in-transit mama vamp when she’s got precious cargo onboard.

**Cast**: Peri Baumeister, Roland MĆøller, Chidi Ajufo, Alexander Scheer, Graham McTavish, Dominic Purcell

Castlevania (2017–2021)

Castlevania

Sypha, Trevor Belmont, and Alucard in 'Castlevania'. Netflix

*Castlevania* is a rare video-game adaptation that genuinely works. Violent, wry, and self-aware, this four-season adult animated series takes its inspiration from the popular Japanese video games. This incarnation has the benefit of a voice cast full of genre favorites, including Richard Armitage (*Hannibal*), James Callis (*Battlestar Galactica*), and Graham McTavish (*Outlander*).

Monster hunter Trevor Belmont (Armitage) takes up weapons to protect his slice of medieval Europe from Dracula (McTavish), who’s hellbent on revenge after his wife’s death. EW’s critic called attention to the impressive design of *Castlevania’s *action sequences and its approach to comfort with genre, noting that its characters are ā€œactively trying to break free of these kinds of stale conventions.ā€

Where to watch *Castlevania*: Netflix

**Cast**: Richard Armitage, James Callis, Graham McTavish, Jaime Murray, Adetokumboh M'Cormack, Alejandra Reynoso

Interview with the Vampire (2022–present)

Jacob Anderson as Louis De Point Du Lac and Sam Reid as Lestat De Lioncourt - Interview of the Vampire _ Season 2, Episode 1

One of the best shows currently airing, full stop, *Interview With the Vampire *is an audacious adaptation of the beloved Anne Rice books. The series reimagines diverse characters and embraces the novels’ queerness, repositioning the narrative for a 21st century audience. *Interview’s *bloody heart belongs to Jacob Anderson as new vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac and Sam Reid as his mercurial sire, Lestat de Lioncourt.

ā€œAnne Rice wasn't afraid to break rules, to push boundaries, and make people unhappy with some of the choices that she made,ā€ Reid told EW in 2023. ā€œWe're honoring that kind of anarchic element that Anne Rice had in her writing.ā€

Where to watch *Interview with the Vampire*: Netflix

**Cast**: Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Eric Bogosian, Assad Zaman

Midnight Mass (2021)

MIDNIGHT MASS (L to R) SAMANTHA SLOYAN as BEV KEANE in episode 101 of MIDNIGHT MASS

Bev (Samantha Sloyan) being very, very judgy in 'Midnight Mass'. EIKE SCHROTER/NETFLIX

Putting *Midnight Mass* on the list is kiiiiiind of a spoiler, but c’mon, it’s horrormeister Mike Flanagan. You knew something sinister was going on. Zach Gilford stars as newly paroled Riley Flynn, who returns home to a tiny New England island wearing his guilt and grief like a lead cloak. He reconnects with his childhood sweetheart (Kate Siegel) and meets the town’s sad-eyed new priest (Hamish Linklater), whose own raiments are heavy with secrets. Without getting into too much detail, a certain phenomenon begins taking hold of the townsfolk.

The seven-episode show is meditative, atmospheric, and unforgettable. EW’s critic put it simply: ā€œI can't stop thinking about *Midnight Mass*.ā€ Fire it up, and you’ll be in the same boat.

Vampires vs. the Bronx (2020)

Vampires vs. The Bronx

The power of Christ (and Bronx pride?) compels you in 'Vampires vs. the Bronx'. Broadway Video

What’s worse for the last ungentrified pocket of NYC: bloodsuckers or white people with canvas bags? In *Vampires vs. the Bronx, *a group of teenagers fights that war on both fronts. People in the neighborhood are mysteriously disappearing. Properties and storefronts are getting gobbled up by a nebulous real-estate outfit called Murnau Industries (wink), and meanwhile, the kids who see what’s going on can hardly get their elders to believe it... or even notice.

Directed by Emmy-winning *SNL* video shorts director Oz RodrĆguez, this horror-comedy features smart pop-culture references (the wannabe defenders watch *Blade* to learn the rules of vamp-hunting) and a tonal mix that’s equal parts creepy and satirical.

Where to watch *Vampires vs. the Bronx*: Netflix

**Cast:** Jaden Michael, Gregory Diaz IV, Gerald W. Jones III, Imani Lewis, Joel Martinez, Sarah Gadon, Method Man
