A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms showrunner Ira Parker teases the season 2 arrivals of Lucy Boynton's Lady Rohanne and Babou Ceesay as Ser Bennis.

"This is essentially Dunk wading into politics," Parker says, prefacing the new season.

The co-creator also addresses the filming delays due to historic rainfall and flooding in the Canary Islands.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 hit a snag.

As previously reported by various press, historic rainfall from Storm Therese around the Canary Islands, where the HBO series films, yielded intense flooding that forced the crew to delay production.

The irony isn't lost on showrunner and co-creator Ira Parker; the upcoming episodes adapt the second of George R. R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas, "The Sworn Sword," which involves the two lead characters traversing a drought-stricken landscape.

"We're hanging out in a hotel in Grand Canary waiting for the rain to pass," Parker says, chatting with Entertainment Weekly for an awards season interview. "It's good. You know, we're doing our thing. We're making plans and making alternate plans, and at this point, we just, I guess, need a little bit of luck. I don't know."

As the crew continues praying to the old gods and the new, Parker teases a bit of the characters we already know are coming into the orbit of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), the latter now outed as Prince Aegon V Targaryen.

HBO confirmed Lucy Boynton (A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story) in the role of Lady Rohanne, the head of House Webber and the Lady of Coldmoat. She's also known by the moniker "the Red Widow."

"She has a way of making Dunk uncomfortable, which is very good for us. Some of our other characters on season 1 did that very well, and that's what we need from the Red Widow for a variety of reasons," Parker explains. "This is essentially Dunk wading into politics. Maybe he's gotten pretty good with a sword and pretty good riding a horse and being a sword for hire, but not so good at talking to highborn ladies or politicking in general. So somebody who can make him feel back-footed is gonna lead to good situations for us."

Parker praises Boynton's audition, noting, "She came with just the right amount of specificity and quirk that we love, that feels real and authentic and grounded but also unique. She's gonna blow some people away."

Two other actors confirmed for roles include Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth), as sworn sword Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, and Peter Mullan (Ozark) as Ser Eustace Osgrey, the head of House Osgrey. Of the two, Ceesay was on the team's radar in season 1. He didn't audition for the series previously, Parker clarifies, but his name came up for a "particular role" as "a pie-in-the-sky suggestion." Ultimately, "it wasn't right" at the time, he says.

"He's given us a really full, interesting Ser Bennis," Parker continues. "He's a good foil to Dunk and also to Egg, which you're always looking for. He has, I don't know, just this way of making sense. Even in saying bad things, you sort of want him to be your friend."

We'll eventually meet these characters when season 2 premieres in 2027, and despite the filming delays, Parker is still on track to deliver the new episodes to viewers next year. If you believe in the power of prayer or positive thinking, dream of "hot, dry, blue skies," he says. "The opposite of what Dunk wants, rain. We want a drought."
