- *Good Morning America* announced a new weekend team and format on Wednesday.

- Rachel Scott joined the Saturday show alongside Whit Johnson.

- Rhiannon Ally will anchor the Sunday show with Gio Benitez.

The *Good Morning America** *weekend team is getting a refresh.

ABC announced on Tuesday that the network’s senior political correspondent Rachel Scott will join Whit Johnson to co-anchor the Saturday iteration of the morning show. Scott has been working at ABC News since 2016, when she started as a production assistant. She will continue her role as a senior political correspondent along with her new role. Johnson, meanwhile, has co-anchored the Saturday show since 2018 and joined *World News Tonight** *Saturday since 2021.

“As I enter my ninth year as a* GMA* weekend co-anchor, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity — and especially excited to launch Saturdays with my good friend Rachel Scott,” Johnson told **’s sister site PEOPLE in a statement on Wednesday. “Viewers already know Rachel as a tough, dynamic and extraordinarily talented political journalist.”

He added, “But I’m truly excited for them to also see more of the Rachel we know behind the scenes — kind, warm, authentic and very funny. It’s the perfect recipe to start your weekend mornings.”

Similarly, ABC News correspondent Rhiannon Ally will be co-anchoring *GMA *on Sunday alongside Gio Benitez. Ally has been reporting across several ABC News programs since joining the network in 2021. More recently, she was tapped to co-anchor *World News Now* and *Good Morning America First Look*. Benitez has been the Sunday co-anchor since 2023.

Benitez praised Ally in a statement to PEOPLE, revealing their years-long history.

“She’s the first person I ever anchored with when we were both working in local news in Miami,” he said. “The fact that we now get to say *Good Morning America* together is truly special.”

Benitez continued, “I cherish the relationship we have with our viewers. And to be able to split the weekend with two of my dearest friends, Whit and Rachel, gives us all the chance to help keep them informed throughout the week.”

Leslie Lopez is also joining the team as the *GMA* weekend meteorologist. She joined ABC this past April.

The switch-up is set to start this weekend with Scott and Ally joining *GMA* on Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, respectively.

“We know weekend mornings are precious to our audience, and we could not be more excited to have Whit, Rachel, Gio, and Rhiannon as our new weekend team, along with Leslie, to help our viewers make the most of their Saturdays and Sundays,” the *GMA *senior executive producer, Simone Swink, shared in a statement on Sept. 9.

Details about the new weekend format have not yet been revealed. However, Swink teased that it will allow for the new weekend team “to show up more on our weekday broadcasts, too.”

*Good Morning America* airs on ABC Saturdays and Sundays at 8:00 a.m. ET/PT.
