A woman is suing her employer, Anna's House in Ann Arbor, as part of a class action lawsuit, according to federal court documents.
The collective action lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Oct. 27, is seeking damages for Lauren Burke, of Toledo, Ohio, among others. They allege that the restaurant chain failed to pay minimum wages and proper overtime compensation for hours worked, violating the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and Michigan’s Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act.
The suit names 14 Anna’s House companies across the state and owner and CEO Joshua Beckett as defendants. Anna's House operates more than 13 breakfast and brunch locations across the state and employees around 360 people.

The Free Press reached out to both Elizabeth Wells-Skaggs, who is representing Anna’s House, and Burke's lawyers at Morgan and Morgan, who did not immediately respond for comment on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires employers to pay staff at least the federal minimum wage for all hours worked and pay overtime at one and one-half times the employee's regular rate for all hours worked in excess of a forty-hour work week.

The plaintiffs believe the three are over 500 employees who qualify for the suit, accounting for turnover.
Burke is seeking what she calls unpaid minimum wages, overtime compensation and compensatory damages, including attorney fees. They're also calling on Anna's House to notify other employees, if they qualify, to join the case.
Burke, at the time the lawsuit was filed, was still employed by the Ann Arbor brunch spot, located at 445 E. Eisenhower Parkway.
She has requested a jury trial.
