A rep for Britney Spears shared a statement with PEOPLE after it was reported she was "erratic"
TMZ reported that the pop star was having dinner at Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks and allegedly walked by another table of guests holding a knife
On May 4, Spears' attorney pleaded guilty to a "wet reckless" on her behalf
Britney Spears' rep has addressed reports that she was "erratic" during a night out to dinner and allegedly wielded a knife.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE on Thursday, May 14, Spears' rep said that reports about her outing on Wednesday, May 13 were "completely blown out of proportion."
"Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard," the rep continues. "She was simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbors. At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife. She was cutting her hamburger in half. This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person. This is ridiculous and it needs to stop now."
Earlier on May 14, TMZ cited sources who claimed Spears, 44, was sharing a table with two people at Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks the night prior when she allegedly began "screaming" and "barking." A customer at the restaurant told the outlet that Spears walked by their table holding a knife.
On May 13, entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider posted on X that he was allegedly eating dinner next to Spears and called it a "WILD experience."
In a quote tweet, he wrote, "She just left and everyone in the restaurant turned and started talking about it. An INSANE dining experience. One diner feared for her life. This is not a joke…."
These reports come just days after the Grammy winner shared that she was on a "spiritual journey" in the caption of an Instagram post, which featured her holding a baby snake.
"Went to the pet store with my kids and look at what what a beautiful baby snake this is," Spears wrote on Saturday, May 9. "… Snakes are symbolic of good health, higher consciousness, and pure luck…"
The "Toxic" singer then said that she experienced a "blessing in disguise," without mentioning her recent arrest in the post's caption."I'm so damn thankful to my friends and so many new beautiful people I have met through my spiritual journey … all a blessing in disguise," Spears wrote.

She added that she needs to "learn how to be kind to myself and the way I speak to myself."
"It's a never ending journey and sometimes I just stop, look up and say wow God I think that was you and smile on!!!!" Spears concluded.

On May 4, Spears' attorney, Michael A. Goldstein, agreed to plead guilty to a "wet reckless" on her behalf after her arrest on suspicion of a DUI in Ventura, Calif., on March 4.
"Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct. She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney's decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI," Goldstein said in a statement after the hearing.
He continued, "Britney appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received."
At the time, the "Everytime" singer was sentenced to 12 months' probation and one day in jail, which was credited as time served. She was also fined $571.00.
Additionally, Spears must attend a three-month DUI program, see a psychologist once a week and a psychiatrist twice a month. Her vehicle can also be searched for drugs and alcohol.
When she was arrested in March, a rep for Spears said in a statement shared with PEOPLE that it “was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.”“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life,” the statement said.
The rep added that they hoped Spears "can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."
