Candice Bergen is reflecting on her early modeling career.

During a Mother's Day episode of The Run-Through with Vogue podcast, co-hosted by her daughter and Vogue's head of editorial content Chloe Malle, the 80-year-old actress recalled that she quickly lost interest in modeling.

"I remember modeling when I was 15 or 16," Bergen shared. "I started to earn my own money and putting on what seemed like grownup clothes, women's suits and stockings and thinking, 'Oh, what a lot of trouble.'"

The actress added that the job "was interesting the first few times and then it faded."

Bergen got her start as a model and appeared on her first Vogue cover in 1967. She then pivoted to acting, landing her first role in the 1966 film The Group.

Bergen recently opened up about Malle's appointment as Anna Wintour's successor at Vogue. Wintour, who was editor-in-chief of American Vogue for 37 years, named Malle as her successor in September 2025.

In an interview for AARP’s Movies for Grownups, Bergen said her daughter's new role "is no small thing."

"She’s been at Vogue for 14 years, so she didn’t just talk her way into it," the actress continued. "She worked up to it."

The Emmy winner also said that she was "so impressed" with Malle, 40, as a mother to her two children. "I think she’s wonderful with her kids, and she’s very lucky because she chose a great husband [Graham Albert], who is a fantastic father."

Malle, who is the daughter of Bergen and late French film director Louis Malle, began her tenure at Vogue in 2011 as a social editor. After five years in the role, the journalist switched to a contributing editor position at Vogue. She has served as a contributing editor since 2016 and moved up to editor for Vogue.com in 2023.

The new position also holds personal significance for Malle, given Bergen's memorable guest role as Enid Frick, the fictional editor-in-chief of Vogue, in seasons 4, 5 and 6 of Sex and the City. She reprised the character in season 2 of And Just Like That...
