Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva engaged in a closely contested battle in the quarterfinals of the US Open, with the American pulling off an impressive comeback win. After Andreeva’s frustrations boiled over during the showdown, Gauff shared her thoughts on the 19-year-old’s on-court behavior.

What Coco Gauff Said About Mirra Andreeva’s On-Court Behavior After US Open Clash

Gauff made a slow start to her quarterfinal clash, falling behind as Andreeva dominated the opening set. The American then found herself on the brink of defeat in the second set, but she fought back to save two match points and force a decider.

During the tense third set, Gauff secured an early break to take a 2-1 lead, prompting a frustrated reaction from Andreeva, who threw her racket toward her bench in anger. Gauff went on to claim a 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-2 victory, booking her spot in the semifinals.

When asked about Andreeva’s behavior during her post-match press conference, Gauff said she did not notice any negative reactions from the 19-year-old aside from the racket throw.

“Honestly, I didn’t really see any negative reactions except the one racket throw on a changeover. Honestly, I wasn’t really looking. I felt like she was calm pretty much most of the match. I don’t know what the camera picked up or anything, but as far as my POV, I really didn’t see any bad behavior or things that may have looked tight,” Gauff said.

The American expressed her belief that she had displayed more frustration herself in the opening set and acknowledged that, had she been in Andreeva’s position, she likely would have reacted similarly by throwing her racket.

“I feel like if anything in the beginning of the match, I was showing them more frustration, especially in the the first set. I mean, that’s normal,” she said. “I could feel maybe in the game that there was some tension because she started to throw in more errors, but I wouldn’t say behavior wise, it’s something that I picked up on.”

“I thought she was pretty calm for most of the match and she had the one throw, but I mean probably would have done the same thing in her position,” she added.

Andreeva also addressed the incident during her post-match press conference, explaining that she simply needed to vent her frustration as her struggles mounted during the match.

“I think every emotion that you show, your opponent is aware of something. But at that point, I felt like I was holding my emotions for too long, not reacting to a lot of points in the first set and in the second set as well, after having many points and losing the set. But then, at one point, I just felt like I needed to let it out,” Andreeva said.

Up next, Coco Gauff faces a daunting test against No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina in the semifinals of the US Open. Their head-to-head record stands at 1-1, but Rybakina secured a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over the American in their recent clash at the 2026 Canadian Open.
