Fans couldn't help but comment on Elle Duncan's choice to wear gloves as Netflix hosted the NFL's first game in Australia.

On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, marking the first time the league has had a game played in the land down under. To mark the occasion, Netflix had Duncan, former NFL stars Clay Travis, Nick Foles, and Michael Irvin on the desk to ring in the 2026 NFL season for both teams.

That said, while there was plenty of star power on and off the field, it was Duncan's gloves that grabbed the fans' attention on social media. It comes after the Buffalo Bills made a national anthem decision that will infuriate Donald Trump.

Wearing an outfit that imitated a sleeveless suit, Duncan complemented the look by wearing black leather gloves and it was clear that her decision was one that left fans scratching their heads.

"Why is Elle Duncan wearing gloves like Holly Golightly?" one fan wrote on X.

A second added with two laughing emojis, "What’s going on with Elle Duncan’s leather gloves on this @netflix pre-game? I can’t look at anything else." A number of fans were more critical of the 43-year-old's decision to wear gloves, with some believing it took away from the broadcast.

"Why in the world is Elle Duncan wearing gloves for nfl Netflix game She’s looks absolutely ridiculous. Ok so not watching until the actual game starts much like when NBC has the games," a fan posted.

Two more fans commented that they were perplexed by Duncan wearing gloves in Australia to ring in the NFL season for the NFC West rivals. Lastly, a fan offered a more humorous take on the moment, leaving viewers very split on Duncan's choice of attire.

"S/O to Elle wearing those gloves commentating. Looking like she's about to rob a bank right when the game begins," the fan's post read.

This is not the first time Duncan has garnered attention for her actions. In mid-August, the former ESPN anchor stated that she believed the WNBA was "the most toxic space to cover" as outside noise continued to penetrate the league's bubble.

"I remember how much passion, energy, and excitement there was for the attention that these women were finally getting," Duncan began on WHYY's Sports In America podcast at the time.

"The ratings, this new crop of superstars that were going to come into the league and help elevate this game even more, it would finally be all these women reaping everything that they had sewn all these years.

"And very quickly over the course of the last three years, it's just turned into … a sticking point for sides to continue to politicize things that shouldn't be, to be as divisive as possible."

She added, "And I think, very quickly, that's turned into, 'Oh my goodness, everything that people revered and loved about this space is essentially being hijacked.'"

It comes as NBC was urged to fire Mike Tomlin just minutes into his debut as the host corrected a humiliating error.
