Emma Roberts and Evan Peters reunited for an American Horror Story announcement

The former couple appeared onstage together at the 2026 Disney Upfronts to reveal details about season 13 of the FX hit series

Roberts and Peters previously dated from 2012 until 2019, when they called off their engagement

Emma Roberts and Evan Peters are back together again.

On Tuesday, May 12, the Scream Queens star, 35, and The Beauty actor, 39, joined each other onstage at the 2026 Disney Upfront presentation at the Javits Center in New York City to announce their roles in season 13 of American Horror Story.

Their reunion comes seven years after the former couple called off their engagement in March 2019.

Longtime American Horror Story stars Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Gabourey Sidibe and Billie Lourd were also present for Tuesday's big reveal.

Paul Anthony Kelly joined the group, as he has also signed on for Ryan Murphy’s anthology series. This will be his first major role following his breakout as John F. Kennedy Jr. in FX's Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.

“I guess every nightmare needs fresh blood … and thirteen's my lucky number,” Kelly, 37, said Tuesday.

The upcoming American Horror Story installment will “do justice to everyone's most feared number” and feature several fan-favorite cast members reprising iconic roles from previous seasons, according to FX.

Murphy previously teased Roberts’ involvement with the hit television show via social media in early April.

“@emmaroberts Returns as Madison Montgomery. AHS 13 September,” the joint Instagram post was captioned.

In the clip, her back was to the camera as she sat at a piano, before she turned around and said, “Surprise bitch. Bet you thought you’d seen the last of me” while smirking.

The Murphy and Brad Falchuk co-created series first debuted in 2011 and has been nominated for dozens of Emmy Awards.

Photos from Tuesday’s Disney Upfront event showed Roberts and Peters standing beside one another onstage for the exciting casting news. They met while filming the 2013 indie comedy Adult World, and first sparked romance rumors in the summer of 2012. PEOPLE confirmed their engagement in January 2014, after Peters popped the question over the holidays.

That same year, Peters spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about how it was “really amazing” to work with his then-fiancée on Murphy’s American Horror Story in New Orleans.

“You’re at set and you’re in a city that you don’t really know that well. It’s nice to have your best friend there to go to dinner with and check out the city,” he said.

However, there were rough patches during their relationship. In July 2013, Roberts was arrested in connection with domestic violence in Montreal, Canada, involving Peters.

“It was an unfortunate incident and misunderstanding,” their reps said in a joint statement at the time. “Ms. Roberts was released after questioning and the couple is working together to move past it.”

They later called off their engagement in 2015, but rekindled soon after before going their separate ways for good in early 2019.

Roberts began dating Garrett Hedlund in March 2019, and the two welcomed a son named Rhodes in December 2020. The pair split in January 2022 with a focus on co-parenting their child. The actress is currently engaged to Cody John, whom she first went public with in August 2022.

In 2024, Peters debuted his relationship with Natalie Engel at Milan Fashion Week.

All previous seasons of American Horror Story are now streaming on Hulu.
