Iran has targeted US naval supply lines in a wave of airstrikes that have brought the interim peace deal to the brink of collapse.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have destroyed several key US facilities across the Gulf, including a refuelling station for American aircraft carriers at the Port of Duqm, Oman.

Five Arab states were targeted during the attacks, including Qatar, a key mediators in peace negotiations, prompting a furious response from the region.

The strikes were the most extensive wave of attacks since fighting restarted this week.

Doha said they marked a “dangerous escalation” as Oman condemned the strikes on its territory, which took place just hours after talks with Iran aimed at reducing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian attacks were carried out after the US launched some 140 strikes on Saturday evening in response to further assaults by Tehran on commercial shipping in the waterway.

The latest round of fighting was triggered earlier this week by Iranian strikes on tankers attempting to transit the shipping lane. Tehran has argued that all commercial vessels must use routes approved by its authorities.

The White House has demanded that Iran publicly commit to ending attacks on commercial shipping, with Donald Trump saying the ceasefire between the two countries was “over”.

Where is the new supreme leader?

Upon assuming the mantle of supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who the regime claims survived the obliterating attack on his father’s compound that also killed his wife and son, has disappeared from public view. No video. No audio. No appearance by the new supreme leader. In other words: no proof of life.

Until his father’s funeral, Mojtaba’s name had served as a form of political glue to prevent the regime’s oligarchic clans from tearing each other apart over power and resources – rather than ideology, which they are all aligned on. The various factions invoked his authority as a means of keeping rival clans in check, legitimising their actions, and preventing the regime’s internal power struggle from spilling into the open.

But this was all done on the assumed basis that the new supreme leader was alive, able and still in control. That assumption is now quietly shifting amongst the regime’s elite. While no one is willing to say it aloud, the possibility that the new supreme leader is either severely incapacitated or dead is becoming increasingly difficult to dismiss.

Iranian newspaper publishes ‘kill list’ of foreign leaders

A conservative newspaper in Iran has published a list of people to be targeted as revenge for the killing of supreme leader Ali Khamenei, including the leaders of the US, Israel and European countries.

US-Israeli strikes killed the late ayatollah on February 28th and his son and successor Mojtaba Khamenei has vowed revenge.

“Vengeance is the will of our nation and must inevitably be carried out,” Mojtaba said on Saturday in his first message since his father’s funeral this week.

“These criminals, whose names appear on a list, will take to their graves the wish of a peaceful death in their beds.”

The Hamshahri newspaper, which is published by authorities in the Iranian capital, released an infographic online late Saturday featuring photos of 13 foreign leaders alongside Mojtaba’s statement.

The supreme leader in his message said Iran had compiled a list of individuals to be targeted, but did not offer names, and there was no suggestion the newspaper’s list was officially endorsed.

The infographic includes US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, among others.

Strait of Hormuz is ‘closed until further notice,’ says Iran

Iran struck a Cyprus-flagged container ship leading to “significant engine room damage” and a missing civilian crew member, the US military said early on Sunday morning.

According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations centre, the ship was travelling on a route that hugs the coast of Oman, a passage that avoids Iran’s territorial waters.

The ship’s crew abandoned the vessel as it was ablaze, the centre said.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said multiple vessels “disregarded our warnings and instructions to correct their course and proceed along the approved route.” One of them “was struck by a warning shot and brought to a stop.”

Iran said that the strait would remain closed “until further notice” and said it would consider targeting “additional enemy bases in the region” if it faced more attacks.

Iran hits Gulf states including UAE

Missile alerts sounded across several Gulf Arab nations on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, missile alerts sounded for the third time on Sunday in Bahrain, an island kingdom in the Persian Gulf home to the US Navy’s 5th Fleet.

Kuwait’s military also said it was intercepting incoming fire.

It wasn’t immediately clear what locations were under attack in the UAE, which so far hadn’t been targeted in the latest round of attacks by Iran.

Pete Hegseth, the US defence secretary, had warned on X that Iran “made a poor choice. Now they pay.”
