John Frieda was born in Middlesex, England, in 1951, and discovered his calling for hairstyling at an early age, inspired by watching his father and grandfather thrive in the family trade on Fleet Street. He went on to build one of the most recognizable haircare brands in the world, reports the Express.

While the passion was in his blood, it's believed that John never originally intended to pursue hairdressing, but his father pushed him towards the profession. As he began establishing himself as a stylist, he abandoned his birth name, Alan, because another person at the salon had the same name. He previously explained, "In the salon, you go by your first name.

"There was another Alan. You can't have two hairdressers going by the same name," which led to the creation of his now-iconic brand. During his career, he contributed to numerous prestigious publications, including Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, and styled an impressive roster of A-list celebrities.

His client list included names like Twiggy and Mick Jagger, as well as Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson. At the young age of 25, he launched his own salon after declaring he needed a "new challenge."

He later married singer Lulu, with Ringo Starr, Elton John and Tom Jones all attending the wedding. He launched his own product range in the 1980s, and more than 40 years on, Frizz-Ease continues to be a bestseller on store shelves.

Discussing his split from Lulu, with whom he shares son Jordan, he reflected, "She is an incredible person. And if I'd not been uptight, paranoid, not wanting to be 'Mr Lulu'... But I was a young guy.

"Whatever happened, whatever the reasons, you never stop loving that person. You may be angry, you may be worried about things, you may feel something happened that you didn't like. But you have not left that person. I never stopped loving her; she's the mother of my son."

Frieda later married Frances Avery Agnelli, and together they had daughter Luna and son Jackson. He also became stepfather to a girl who was four when he began his relationship with his second wife, Frances. He leaves behind his wife, four children and two grandchildren.
