Judge Judy Sheindlin has announced that following this season of Judy Justice, she will be stepping back from on-screen work.

She first appeared on Judge Judy 30 years ago.

Sheindlin’s son Adam Levy is set to star in a courtroom show of his own.

Judge Judy is reportedly saying goodbye to life on TV after 30 years. In a new interview, the 83-year-old judge, whose full name is Judith Sheindlin, explained her reasons for stepping back from on-screen appearances later this year.

“I have a lot of other things of interest,” she said to Peoplein an interview published on September 9. “I don’t want to do hair and makeup anymore, but I still want my message to get out there.”

Sheindlin will step back from her on-screen career after her Prime show Judy Justice comes to an end in October. However, she has no plans to stop creating TV altogether. For one thing, her son Adam Levy, 58, is set to star in his own court show Adam’s Law, which will see him dealing with small-claims cases.

“There aren’t a lot of people who can carry a half hour on their own unscripted,” Sheindlin said, adding that he “has what it takes.”

Sheindlin is also currently developing Judyverse, an adult animated series inspired by a series of viral AI “Baby Judge Judy” videos online.

The judge has been a daytime TV staple for 30 years. Her famous show, Judge Judy, ran from 1996 until 2021. That same year, she launched the spin-off, Judy Justice. “I don’t have to prove anything else. I did it,” she told People about her long career.

Sheindlin’s career will be celebrated in the CBS special Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable on September 22.
