Social media users were quick to criticize former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after he appeared in a TikTok.

Trudeau, 54, made a guest appearance in a TikTok shared by his girlfriend, Katy Perry. The pop singer, 41, lip sync-ed along to her latest song, "Watch It Burn" while background dancers jumped about behind her. Trudeau, too, hopped around. "Ancient texts say that if you hop to this song you will get 1,000 years of good luck," Perry captioned the video.

"Fmr. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is now bouncing around in the background of girlfriend Katy Perry's new music video like an 18-year-old backup dancer. From running a G7 country to B-roll," posted an X user as they attached the video clip along. This criticism comes as fans remarked that the pair looked "lovestruck" in the TikTok video.

While fans praised Trudeau and Perry's relationship, critics took aim. Many admonished Trudeau as acting childish in the video, during which he can be seen hopping around with his arms glued to his sides.

"Some people just cannot take a backseat and go away eh??" wrote one social media user about the former Prime Minister.

Another dubbed the famous couple to be "cuckoo."

While a third chimed in, "He's such a loser."

And another critic wrote, "it was by the cringiest thing I've seen yet."

One post shared an AI-generated video based on the original clip, in which Trudeau is arrested by a police officer and Perry flies into space.

In the brief "Watch It Burn" TikTok video clip, Perry wore a peachy-orange dress with white dots and a teal seahorse emblazoned on the front. Blue bows hung off the shoulders of the ensemble and two massive green stars sat on the buttocks. Perry added a pair of thigh-high white socks and black chunky Mary Jane-like shoes. Her hair was slicked back into a pony tail.

Trudeau opted for a hunter green shirt and khaki pants for his appearance. Accompanying him in the video with Perry were other background dancers, who, too, hopped along as "Watch It Burn" played.

Perry and Trudeau were first linked together in July 2025, when they were spotted having dinner together in Montreal. By October, they had confirmed their relationship. Most recently, the two made their red carpet debut at Tribeca Film Festival. At the event, Perry called Trudeau "the love of my life."
