Kelly Osbourne says she ‘doesn’t agree’ with mum Sharon’s controversial views

Kelly Osbourne has addressed her mum Sharon’s controversial views, including her support of far-right figure Tommy Robinson.

The reality TV star was questioned about Sharon’s political stance on the red carpet at the National Television Awards in London. In April, Sharon was met with a backlash after sharing her approval for a “Unite the Kingdom” rally organised by Robinson.

“I don’t agree. I don’t agree with my mum, no,” Osbourne, 41, told Attitude Magazine. “That’s one thing that I can say that I don’t agree with her on.

“It’s hard, ‘cos I love my mum, but I also have to understand she’s entitled to her own opinions as well. And it’s really hard when it comes to politics and things like that, but that’s not for me.”

Asked whether she’d spoken with Sharon about her views on LGBTQ+ rights, Kelly said she always believed her mum shared her stance.

In a 2022 interview with the Times, Sharon was asked about what being a woman means to her, prompting her to say “it comes from within” and “it’s not for us to decide what is a woman and what isn’t”.

However, she also said she believed it was unfair for trans women to compete against cis women in sports, and implied that children identifying as trans or nonbinary was a fad: “It’s, like, hey, it’s not an accessory. This isn’t the ‘in thing’.”

“Honestly, [it makes me feel] sad,” Kelly said after being told her mother’s trans views might not align with her own. “I don’t think my mum knows enough trans people to make a fair judgement on anything to do with that sort of thing, whereas for me, that is my world. And to be born into a body that doesn’t belong to you, I couldn’t imagine anything worse.”

Kelly said when she sits down with her mum to discuss these subjects, Sharon responded positively: “She gets it. I think honestly, it’s just a misunderstanding… it’s not like in any way ‘against’, if you know what I’m saying.”

Kelly recently addressed concern surrounding her health, acknowledging that she “couldn’t see what other people saw” because she was in “so much pain” after her father Ozzy Osbourne’s death.

She revealed it was her gaunt appearance in a photograph taken at a dress fitting for the Grammy Awards in January this year that made her realise there was a problem.

“I looked like the f****** Crypt Keeper,” Kelly told the Daily Mail, referring to the skeletal ghoul from TV series Tales from the Crypt. “I said, 'This is scary – I didn't know I looked like this.’ My spine – you could see every single bone.”

She shared that she ended up wearing a wig that covered part of her face, so people “couldn’t see how skinny” her cheekbones really were, but she said she doesn’t think she should have gone as she “wasn’t very well”.

She said she had lived with “anticipatory grief” for 10 years due to her dad’s worsening health and that she plans to do a documentary series on grief and mental health as “there’s a lot that people don’t know”.
