Kelly Ripa has been on the air for 39 seasons and during that time, she’s crafted her own dos and don’ts — from how to handle faux pas to wearing certain bras — when it comes to her televised wardrobe.

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the daytime talk show host and her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, chatted with PEOPLE on the set of Live with Kelly and Mark, which is when their stylists joined in on the interview with details on how they dress the stars.

Audrey Slater-Spiegel, who dresses Ripa, 55, talked about the synergy they have, sharing exclusively, “For us, we work together and we know each other’s styles really, really well.”

Ripa then revealed that her stylist knows exactly how to outfit her depending on the length of her leg hair. “[Audrey] also knows when I don’t feel like shaving my leg, so that’s a pants leg. She’ll be like, ‘What day of hair growth on your legs is this,’ ” she says.

One fashion rule the All My Children star isn’t so particular about: not wearing white after Labor Day.

“I don’t follow that rule,” Ripa, wearing white heels, says of the unspoken tradition tied to the September holiday, which fell on Monday, Sept. 7 this year. “I never follow that rule, I’m in white pants year round.”

Not every piece of clothing is a shoo-in for Ripa’s approval though. In her 2025 interview with PEOPLE alongside her daughter Lola, she listed one specific piece that is a no-go. “There are so many things that I just can’t or won’t wear. I’m literally making a list in my head. I really try not to, at this age, [wear miniskirts] — and especially since I spend most of my time sitting in a stool or a desk, I try to wear longer skirts,” she said.

Ripa added, “Lola asked me to put on [the] skirt [she’s wearing] and I said, ‘I just cannot.’ Simply cannot. Past a certain age, you got to know when to hang up your disco shoes!”

Consuelos, 55, and his stylist, Esther Pak,have also perfected the actor’s day-to-day style, the duo going for monochromatic pairings that also push his style slightly out of the box. “She also pushes me into areas that I’m like, ‘Really?’ and she’s like, ‘Yeah, trust me,’ and it always works,” he says.

Ripa is back on screen after taking time off to recover from gum graft surgery.

“[I’m] so much better,” she told PEOPLE. “It was fine. It was definitely necessary. I delayed it for five years. I really did because I was like, ‘I’ll wait until I retire.’ And then, eventually my dentist was like, ‘Okay, now we have to finish it.’ ”

Her surgery was announced on the Aug. 12 episode of her Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, during which she said she was “not allowed to talk for ten days” after the operation. Per the Cleveland Clinic, gum graft surgery can help reduce tooth sensitivity, protect against further gum recession and improve overall oral health.

“I brush my teeth too much. It’s a good-bad habit,” Ripa explained of why she had to endure the operation. “But I’ve caused gum recession down here specifically, and so they have gotta re-gum my gums.”
