Don't expect any more comebacks from Lisa Kudrow.
The Comeback star, 64, explained to The Hollywood Reporter why she wanted the long-awaited third season of her hit HBO comedy to be billed as its last.
“We need to say ‘third and final,’” Kudrow told the outlet in an interview published on Wednesday, March 18. “I don’t know if I’ll want to do it again in 10 years, so let’s be done, that way no one is asking what’s next or whether we will even want to do more."
She added, "The most respectful thing we can do for the audience and for the character is make it a three-part story. It’s a trilogy, and this is the end.”

The acclaimed comedy from Kudrow and Michael Patrick King was announced for a third season on HBO and HBO Max last summer. The series, nominated for four Emmys, marks its latest chapter nearly 12 years after wrapping season 2 in December 2014. Almost a decade prior, The Comeback debuted with its first installment in 2005.

Kudrow will of course be returning to her lead role as actress Valerie Cherish, with Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman and Damian Young also continuing their work on the show. While HBO described the first season as a show following a "B-list actress" who agrees to "do a reality show that follows her efforts to land a part in a sitcom in this comedy series," its latest finds Valerie now navigating show business (and AI) years down the line.
“It’s fun to be Valerie,” Kudrow told THR of the character. “As many times as people would say to me, ‘It must be so hard to play those situations where everyone is so tough on her. Isn’t that grueling?’ I would just stare back, like, blink, blink, blink. Grueling? Not at all. What’s wrong with me? It wasn’t grueling at all. I didn’t feel bad for one second."
She added, "Valerie creates her own reality. Yeah, she’s a little delusional, but that’s one of the sources of comedy. It’s so obvious to us that people want her to stop talking or that they don’t want her there, but she can’t help it.”
Kudrow's Friends costars also sounded off about The Comeback, with Courteney Cox calling her pal "amazing" and Jennifer Aniston calling the character that Kurdrow plays "relatable, lovable and adored."
“Lisa Kudrow as Valerie is so funny because she is so earnest,” Cox, 61, said. “She plays her with total sincerity, making her someone you can’t help but laugh at/with, root for and also be heartbroken by. Ironically, I think it’s also why Phoebe is still such a relatable and beloved character. It really always comes back to the amazing Lisa Kudrow.”
The third and final season of The Comeback debuts on March 22 on HBO.
