The Wolfpack are ratcheting things up.

Russell Wilson, an ex-Super Bowl winning quarterback, took part in an interview Tuesday for NC State's head coaching job, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, citing sources.

The 38-year-old Wilson is now in a group with Philip Rivers as ex-Wolfpack and NFL quarterbacks who are candidates for the gig. Dave Doeren was fired by NC State as head coach Oct. 24. (RELATED: Miami Hurricanes Take No. 1 Spot In First College Football Playoff Rankings)

From 2008-10, Wilson competed for the Wolfpack prior to making a transfer in 2011 to Wisconsin. After he was drafted in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2012, Wilson played in the NFL for 14 years, and led the franchise to its first Super Bowl title in 2013.

Wilson, who was selected 10 times as a Pro Bowler throughout his career, announced his retirement back in June and went on to become a CBS Sports analyst.

I like NC State's thinking here, and out of Wilson and Rivers, I'd rather have the latter.

When you line Wilson up against Rivers, the contrast in readiness is stark. Rivers has spent the last several years on the sidelines as a high school head coach, and we know how much of a dawg he was when he played in the National Football League.

Hey, I get you, high school football isn't the ACC, but at least Rivers has experience managing a locker room, designing a week-to-week game plan, dealing with teenagers and handling actual coaching logistics.

Give me Rivers, but shoutout to Russ though.
