She added, “Through stories from inside the family and excerpts of her unpublished writing, I want to celebrate my mother's wit, creativity and the abiding faith that helped her raise 11 children in the face of devastating loss. I hope [the book] captures, as my mother put it, ‘the fun, the laughter, the good times that got us through the bad ones,” and the boundless love that is her legacy."

Ethel passed away in October 2024, at the age of 96. She was survived by nine children, 34 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
