Nicolas Cage is explaining what web-slinging is really like behind the scenes in Spider-Noir

Nicolas Cage, indeed, does his own stunts. And he still get a thrill doing them.
The Spider-Noir star, 62, caught up with PEOPLE at the New York City premiere for Prime Video's new superhero-slash-noir series, as he explained what it was like to fly around on wires for the sake of his web-slinging character.
In the new show, Cage plays Ben Reilly, a private investigator in 1930s New York who just so happens to have spider-like abilities. Understandably, Cage said during the Wednesday, May 13 event that the performance required some "flying around."
"I don't have any crazy stories," Cage said of his latest stunt work. "I did a lot of wirework, which is understandable since this character is flying around quite a bit on webs. I always get a kick out of that."
He adds, "It brings my adrenaline up. You never know if it's gonna snap, but I had a great team."
The crew that worked on the show "knew what they were doing," though, so snapped wires weren't an option. "Everybody was on point so I was safe," Cage says. "But for me, that's just the fun part of doing this. Primarily, I was focused on trying to craft this performance style that would fit in the black and white format."

Spider-Noir will be available in two versions — "Authentic Black & White" and "True-Hue Full Color" — when it drops later in the month. The show features performances from Cage, Lamorne Morris, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Brendan Gleeson and Jack Huston.
It follows Cage's Reilly as he gets pulled back into his masked-superhero past after "a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero," per a synopsis. Cage previously voiced the character of Spider-Man Noir in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but the series itself is based on the Spider-Man Noir comic book, which debuted in 2008.

Cage is no stranger to the world of Marvel, as he previously played the titular character in 2007's Ghost Rider and its 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. It also isn't his first opportunity to act alongside webs, as he revealed to Emmy Magazine that he was offered a chance to play the sinister Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man film. The character was ultimately played by Willem Dafoe.
“I decided to do another movie, a much smaller noir of sorts, more romantic than tragic noir,” the actor said of 2002's Adaptation. “But I remember saying to Sam, ‘I hope whoever you cast [as Spider-Man] really embraces the arachnid body language, at least for one moment. Alone in his apartment, he’s crawling on the ceiling or something.’"
All eight episodes of Spider-Noir will premiere domestically on MGM+’s linear broadcast channel on May 25 and globally on May 27 on Prime Video.
