‘Ouch!’: Glastonbury fans ‘shocked’ at new ticket price

The excitement over the news that Glastonbury Festival tickets will soon be going on sale has been dampened somewhat, as fans shared their frustration at prices breaching the £400 barrier for the first time.

Returning after a fallow year, Worthy Farm’s musical extravaganza will return in 2027 from 23 and 27 June, with speculation around who might play already rife.

Tickets will go on sale in early October, with tickets with coach travel available from Thursday 1 October at 6pm, while general tickets will go on sale at 9am on Sunday 4 October.

While fans shared their excitement – and nerves – about tickets going on sale after a year without Glastonbury, it was the price of tickets that infuriated many.

Tickets for the weekend will be priced at £408 including a £5 booking fee per ticket – an increase of £29.50 from 2025, when tickets cost £378.50. Notably, the deposit required to reserve a ticket has also increased from £75 to £100.

Online, fans shared their frustration at the increased price, with one writing: “£408. And £100 deposit. Ouch!!”

Another agreed, writing: “It’s just a shock to see it in the 400s now. Still good value for money when you look at the bands playing and price of single gig tickets but this is the first year I’m very much against paying.”

Echoing this, one fan wrote: “This does make me consider the price for the first time, that’s a lot even for Glasto.”

While the new cost situates Glastonbury at the top end of the UK festival calendar price-wise, it’s not the only festival to have recently upped its costs. Tickets for Boomtown 2027 cost £440 for Wednesday entry and £370 for Thursday, while final release tickets for Lost Village in 2026 cost £405.

As Glastonbury didn’t run in 2026, others argued that a close to £15 increase year on year was reasonable compared to many other festivals.

“It’s only a shock because it wasn’t on this year, if it had been £15 a year no one would have blinked,” one commenter wrote.

Another argued: “In comparison this price increase isn’t bad at all. Definitely feels more of a reaction to increase costs across the board rather than a money grab from the Eavis’ in my opinion.”

The annual backlash to Glastonbury’s ticket price hikes stems from the historic low cost of attending; at the first festival in 1970, tickets cost £1, and had risen to £280 plus a £5 booking fee by 2022.

Glastonbury has not commented on the new ticket announcement, but in 2023, organiser Emily Eavis described the “challenging” time for festival planners.

“We have tried very hard to minimise the increase in price on the ticket but we’re facing enormous rises in the costs of running this vast show, whilst still recovering from the huge financial impact of two years without a festival because of Covid,” she said.

While tickets for Glastonbury go on sale long before the line-up is announced, names are already being thrown around for the 2027 festival after Eavis revealed that all three headliners had already been booked.
