ā€˜This May Be the Moment Where You Can Buy Low’ — NFL Analyst Urges Vikings To Pursue Trade for $88M QB Amid Kyler Murray’s Struggles

It’s safe to say that the Minnesota Vikings’ experiment with Kyler Murray hasn’t gone according to plan. Six starts into his tenure as the Vikings’ starting quarterback, Minnesota’s scoring offense ranks 27th in the NFL.

While calls have increased for the Vikings to make a blockbuster trade for a star running back like Jonathan Taylor, some feel like Murray, a former Pro Bowl QB, is the problem in Minnesota instead.

Mike Florio Casts Doubts About Kyler Murray

It’s a long season, but so far, Murray has just one game with multiple touchdowns in 2026. Naturally, the Vikings are looking for a bit more out of their starting QB.

Meanwhile, Mike Florio suggests that the former No. 1 overall pick simply ā€œdoesn’t belong out there on the fieldā€ right now.

ā€œThere are flashes of the Kyler Murray we used to know,ā€ Florio said. ā€œThis pains me to say because I was rooting for Kyler Murray to have a back-to-the-future type of a year, and every once in a while you see the meep meep and off he goes, but there’s just too much hesitation. There’s too many moments where he looks every bit of 5-foot-9 or shorter. He just looks like he doesn’t belong out there on the field. You see it as you’re watching the game, it’s like something’s off here.ā€

Murray is completing just 64.9% of his passes, the lowest mark since his rookie season. While he has been learning a new offense, this isn’t the first time he’s had a coordinator change in his eight-year NFL career.

He’s also averaging a career-low 170.3 passing yards per game, adding to the questions that followed him after the Cardinals moved on from their former No. 1 overall pick in March.

The Vikings’ signal-caller ranks just 25th among quarterbacks in PFN’s QB Impact Metric with a grade of 69.8 this season. Being in the bottom tier of quarterbacks is not what the Vikings envisioned when they targeted Murray and later traded J.J. McCarthy for a fifth-round pick.

Of course, there’s time for Murray to build better chemistry with his pass-catchers and gain a stronger grasp of Kevin O’Connell’s offense. But after yet another uninspiring performance in the Vikings’ first loss of the season, the boo birds are starting to outweigh the cheers in Minnesota, and some think the front office needs to make a change.

That change of pace could conveniently present itself this week with Murray now nursing a sore hamstring. But the Vikings also have an extra day to prepare, with their Week 9 matchup against the Buffalo Bills not until next Monday night. Will Murray return to health by then?

Coach O’Connell has already indicated that Murray is his starting QB, if healthy. That means Carson Wentz won’t get a chance this week based on performance alone, but injuries could still change Murray’s status before Monday night.
