Prince William is paying his respects in Norway.

The Prince of Wales 44, joined other royals from around the world in Oslo to pay tribute to late King Harald, who died Aug. 28 at the age of 89 after a period of ill health.

William was photographed walking in the procession, along with his aunt, Princess Anne, who attended the service in a personal capacity as she is godmother to Norway's new monarch, Haakon VIII.

Haakon, 53, took to the throne following his father's death. He, along with other members of the Norwegian royal family, led the procession on Sep. 9. Thousands of mourners lined the streets to pay tribute to Harald, whose funeral service was held at Oslo Cathedral.

Prince William is representing his father, King Charles III at the funeral. The BBC, citing royal sources, reported that William's attendance follows the convention that the sovereign does not typically attend the funeral of another head of state.

Harald's death came after the Norwegian royal household said his health had deteriorated. The popular king reigned for 35 years. One member of the public described him last month as "the grandfather of all of Norway."

King Charles sent his "most heartfelt condolences" to Harald's family last month following the monarch's passing. Charles remembered him fondly him as a friend and "dear cousin." (Charles and Harald are second cousins once removed.)

European Royals in attendance included: Belgium's King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia and Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia. Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco were also in attendance.

Some of the other royals in Oslo had traveled a lot further to pay their respects, including Jordan’s King Abdullah II and his wife, Queen Rania, and Japan's Crown Prince Fumihito and his wife, Crown Princess Kiko.

Harald is survived by his wife, Queen Sonja, 89, who wiped away tears as she bid her husband farewell and placed a red rose on his casket.

Haakon's wife, Queen Mette-Marit, was seen bowing her head and crying as she sat in the front row during the ceremony.

A minute’s silence was observed across Norway on Wednesday.

William's engagement in Oslo comes less than 24 hours after he was photographed escorting his oldest son, Prince George for his first day at Eton College on Tuesday. His wife, Princess Kate was also in attendance, beaming in a dark green dress as she accompanied the teen on his new adventure.

By enrolling at Eton, George,13, follows in the footsteps of his father and uncle Prince Harry, who both attended the school as teens.

George looked smart as he braved the rain on his first day, walking briskly across the school grounds with his parents before darting inside the boarding school for boys, which will be his home for the next five years.
