āTrump suffers historic rebuke as Dems romp in midterms,ā the subheadline read in the usually pro-Trump, Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid after Democrats were projected to regain control of both the House and Senate in the 2026 midterm elections.

The striking front page showed Trump with his mouth wide open and one hand raised, as if trying to fend off an enormous wave inspired by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusaiās famous woodblock print, āUnder the Wave off Kanagawa.āĀ The White House is visible in the background.
CNNās Brian Stelter shared the cover on X.

The Postās editorial board also delivered a sharp assessment of the election results in an opinion piece titled: āA terrible night for Republicans leaves challenges for BOTH parties.ā
āIn this election, at least, Trumpās touch was toxic: Candidates he helped pick all lost or at least badly underperformed,ā the editorial noted. āHe wanted voters to pretend he was on the ballot ā and most of those who did voted against his party.ā
The Postās board also issued a warning to Democrats, saying they āwon purely as Trumpās opposition, without expressing any realistic vision going forward ā but the publicās not likely to approve if they do nothing but continue to fight the president.ā
