Stevie Wonder Announces World Tour Celebrating 50 Years of His Iconic “Songs in the Key of Life” Album

Stevie Wonder is ready to revisit Songs in the Key of Life.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the 25-time Grammy winner announced world tour kicking off next month to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his iconic Songs in the Key of Life album.
Wonder will perform the 1976 album in its entirety at each show of the tour, which launches with a string of U.K. and Europe shows from Oct. 13 to Nov. 11.

The tour’s U.S. leg kicks off Nov. 19 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden and will make stops in Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Wonder’s native Detroit before wrapping Dec. 19 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
Tickets for the U.K. and Europe dates first become available through a Partner presale on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. local time followed by the general on-sale on Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. local time. Other presales vary by market.
The general on-sale for North America (excluding Detroit) starts Sept. 10. at 10 a.m. local time, while the Detroit shows will go on sale Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. local time.
Songs in the Key of Life was released in September 1976 and marked Wonder’s 18th studio album. The project, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and is now diamond-certified by the RIAA, spawned the singles “I Wish,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” “Sir Duke,” “Another Star” and “As.”
Wonder won Album of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 1977 Grammy Awards for Songs in the Key of Life as well as Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for “I Wish” at the ceremony.
The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002 as well as the National Recording Registry in 2005.
In a 1995 interview with Q Magazine, per Rolling Stone, Wonder declared, “Of all the albums, Songs in the Key of Life I’m most happy about.”
He continued, “Just the time, being alive then. To be a father and then letting go and letting God give me the energy and strength I needed.”
