Colorado finally has much-needed momentum after a dramatic overtime win over Kansas State, and head coach Deion Sanders hopes his squad can build on it.

Speaking with reporters Tuesday, Sanders addressed several topics as Colorado prepares for a road matchup against Arizona State. He highlighted the emergence of running back Richard Young, quarterback Julian Lewis' health, and, perhaps most notably, made an interesting comment on the 2027 recruiting class.

Young is coming off a career-best performance against Kansas State, rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Sanders confirmed that the former Alabama transfer will start again this weekend, although his workload remains uncertain.

Here are four takeaways from Sanders' weekly press conference before Arizona State.

Richard Young will start again at running back

Richard Young is coming off his best college game, where he racked up 120 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns. Sanders said before the Kansas State game that we would see a lot of Young, and he certainly kept his word, but it begs the question: why hasn't he been used more this year?

Sanders said Tuesday that Young will start for the second week in a row, but was noncommittal about how many touches or playing time the breakout running back would receive.

Julian Lewis is 'doing well'

Perhaps the most important news from Tuesday's press conference was the update on Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis. Lewis had a medical emergency at Wednesday's practice last week and was hospitalized. Sanders said he spoke with Lewis' dad and that he is doing well.

There was no further update on when or if Lewis will return to the team.

Tuesday was one of the best practices of the season

Sanders said that Tuesday's practice was one of his team's best of the year ahead of another winnable game.

"Today was one of our best practices of the season," Sanders said. "We changed it up a bit and they responded well."

He added that he believes "one day this season, we're going to put it all together."

Some interesting comments about the 2027 recruiting class

Sanders was asked how the recruiting class was doing, given Colorado's recent 5-game losing streak and the noise surrounding Sanders' future at Colorado.

Sanders took an interesting approach to address the subject. Before answering, he paused for a long time, then said he talks to them weekly and that "they're good." However, about midway through his answer, he says "but they..." before turning to his entourage, saying, "I can't do that," and laughing off what he was about to say.

One could assume he was going to say something along the lines of, "If I am not here, the recruits won't be here." Or, more simply, that the recruits are worried about the talk surrounding his job status.

We likely will never know what Sanders was about to say, but it is safe to say that he hears the noise, and so do the recruits. Currently, Colorado's 2027 recruiting class ranks No. 35 nationally and third in the Big 12.
