New Texas Attorney General Nathan Johnson had a fascinating path to politics, including a period when he wrote the musical score for the hit animated series Dragon Ball Z.

This week, Johnson, 58, was named the new attorney general of Texas after his victory over Republican Mayes Middleton in the midterm elections. Johnson secured the win after being met with 52.3% of the votes in the state to Middleton’s 46%, according to the .

Johnson's win was monumental, as he will be the first Democratic Texas Attorney General since Dan Morales, who served from 1991-1999. This comes as Democratic nominees unexpectedly swept the state, including James Talarico, who won the U.S. Senate seat against Ken Paxton.
