Actor Will Mellor recalled encountering Prince William at a London nightclub during a new podcast interview

The royal was said to have broken up a fight on the dance floor

Mellor said he was surprised that the prince knew who he was

Prince William once stepped in to break up a fight at a nightclub involving a British soap opera star.

Actor Will Mellor appeared on the Nov. 2 episode of Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast, where he recapped a story that involved the royal heir. Mellor, now 50, recalled being on crutches and medication after injuring himself playing soccer when he went to Boujis, a private members’ club in London, for a night out.

Mellor recalled that he ended up next to Prince William, now 44, in the bathroom and was surprised to find out that the royal knew who he was. Later in the night, the Coronation Street star said he went on the dance floor, where people were messing with him by trying to “shoulder barge” him off his crutches.

“I didn’t find that funny,” he told the host. “So once I got up, I dived on this lad, and he’s on the floor, and I’m fighting with this lad on the floor.”

Mellor said he then felt hands on his shoulders and pulling him off.

“I hear this person going, ‘Leave it, Will. He’s not worth it. Leave it.’ And it was Prince William,” Mellor recalled.

Mellor said he could see security coming to get him, and he pleaded with the royal to “tell them it’s not my fault,” before getting kicked out of the club.

“The funny part of this story is I got home the next day, and my mate phones me and goes, ‘I’ll never forget seeing Prince William with his hands on your shoulders going, ‘Leave it, Will. He’s not worth it,’ like he was one of your mates,’ ” the actor said.

Coronation Street has been running since 1960 and has multiple connections to the royal family, so it’s not a huge shock that Prince William recognized the actor during their night out. Queen Elizabeth visited the set in 1982 and again in 2021. In addition, King Charles once made a cameo on an episode, and Queen Camilla is said to be a fan.

Boujis was a London hotspot for celebrities before it shut down in 2016, and Prince William reportedly visited on a number of occasions. Owners Carlo Carello and Jake Parkinson-Smith once told Hello! magazine that William and Kate Middleton had a date there early in their romance.

“Kate and Will did love their Crackbabies as on their first date at Boujis, that I can say,” Carlo told the outlet, referring to one of the club’s signature drinks. “They say it was their first public outing.”
