In 2023, Ronald Gladden thought he had joined a documentary chronicling what it’s like to be part of a jury during a civil trial. What he didn’t know was that everyone — from the rest of the jury to the judge, the plaintiffs and the bailiff — were actors, and he was being deceived for Prime Video's reality show Jury Duty.
The "trial" centered around a man who drunkenly went to work at a T-shirt factory and wreaked havoc. Gladden and his fellow jurors — including James Marsden, who played a hilariously arrogant, fictionalized version of himself — were forced to navigate the fictitious case, running into increasingly ridiculous obstacles along the way.
"They got me on camera saying like this feels like reality TV, literally day three," Gladden told PEOPLE in January 2024. "So like from the get go, I kind of had a feeling something just wasn't right, but never in my right mind would I think the entire world around me was fake and everyone was an actor, so I never entertained that thought."
After the series premiered, Gladden became an overnight star. Now, another unwitting suspect, Anthony, has become part of a television show — this time set at a company retreat — as season 2 of Jury Duty premiered on March 20.

Gladden was a solar contractor living in San Diego when saw a Craigslist ad claiming it was seeking jurors for a trial that would be filmed by a documentary crew.
“I was really just looking for a new experience,” he told Amazon News in December 2023.
Throughout the eight-episode season, Gladden had to navigate life as a juror while surrounded by a group of offbeat characters, all while having no idea it was a hoax. Jury Duty became a smash hit for Amazon’s Freevee (which has since been absorbed by Prime Video) and went on to earn four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
Gladden also won $100,000 after taking part in the show, per Amazon News.

After gaining fame from the show, Gladden quit his job as a contractor and moved to Los Angeles. In November 2023, Deadline reported that Gladden had signed with Artists First and inked a two-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

“Quitting my job wasn't really like this big leap of faith that this was going to work out,” he told the Los Angeles Times in January 2024. “I can always go back to being a contractor."
Gladden added that he wants to "put out content that's going to be light-hearted, that feels good."
“I think people responded to Jury Duty because they picked up on the humanity in it," he continued. "I would love to continue to make stuff like that.”
Is Ronald Gladden still close with his Jury Duty costars?

Gladden still maintains his relationships with his Jury Duty costars. In April 2023, Gladden told PEOPLE that he keeps up with everyone from the set, including the crew.
"I'd stay in contact with everyone," he said. “And it's not just the cast members that you saw. I'm talking about the camera operators, I'm talking about the EPs, the showrunners, the sound technicians, literally everyone. They're all amazing."
Gladden and Marsden remain especially close. "It was really important to me, I was like, 'I can't end this and then go, 'Hey bud, that was fun, see ya,' " Marsden told PEOPLE. "If we're really celebrating the guy, then we got to stay pals. And he's such a purehearted human being — I'd want to be friends with him anyway."
In December 2024, Gladden showed his support for Marsden while attending the premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. He posted a series of red carpet photos to his Instagram, calling the movie was “fantastic” and Marsden his “main man.”

Since his time on Jury Duty, Gladden has continued to work in Hollywood. In May 2023, he appeared in a Mint Mobile commercial alongside Ryan Reynolds. The next year, he starred in an Elf Cosmetics Super Bowl commercial with Judge Judy, Megan Trainor and Gina Torres.
He's also appeared in a number of shows. Gladden competed on an episode of Celebrity Family Feud in 2024 and was a guest on Dish It Out with Tilly Ramsay in 2025.
On Instagram, Gladden frequently posts about his love for his corgi, Meatball.
