The 2026 World Cup started with 48 teams, marking the largest tournament field in the 96-year history of the event.

As play began on Saturday, July 11, just six teams remained in the hunt to become world champions.

The top-four teams in the world are still in the tournament, according to the FIFA World Ranking. That includes the two most recent World Cup champions, France (2018) and Argentina (2022).

Les Bleus are already through to the semifinal after earning a 2-0 win over Morocco at Boston Stadium on Thursday, July 9. Meanwhile, La Albiceleste have yet to play their quarterfinal matchup and will need to beat Switzerland Saturday in order to make it to the "final four."
